Sincona sale 90, lot 1557

This specimen was lot 1557 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$430 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL Königreich, Luis I. 1861-1889. 2000 Reis 1866, Lissabon. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Portugal, Louis I, 1861-89, 2,000 réis of 1866, Lisbon mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This type appeared after the conversion to decimal coinage in 1836. It was struck 1864-66 and is more common than the preceding (KM 500) and succeeding types (KM 518).

Recorded mintage: 86,000.

Specification: 3.547 g, 0.917 fine gold, .104 troy oz AGW, 20 mm diameter, this specimen 3.54 g.
