This specimen was lot 75543 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 500 Reis, 1857. Lisbon Mint. Pedro V. NGC MS-62. This is the key date of a three type. Scarce in all grades, most difficult to locate in Mint State." This denomination appeared after the conversion to decimal coinage in 1836. It was struck 1857-59 but is seldom seen compared to later issues that featured Luis I.
