This specimen was lot 47399 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 40 Reis, 1847. Porto Mint. Maria II. NGC AU-58. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type, a forty réis or pataco was struck 1833-34 and 1847 and is scarce in nice condition. These heavy bronze coins received much abuse and are normally found in low grade. It is the last pataco as the coinage was reformed in that year.
