Sincona sale 43, lot 3689

This specimen was lot 3689 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$656 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL, Jose I. 1750-1777 Peca 1772. Lissabon. Gutes sehr schön. Kleine Schrötlingsfehler. (kingdom of Portugal, Joseph I, 1750-77, peça of 1772, Lisbon mint. Good very fine, Minor planchet defects.)"

This type was struck 1750-76 but is seldom seen compared to similar coins that were struck in Brazil.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, this specimen 14.22 g.
