This specimen was lot 1174 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1725. The catalog description[1] noted, "1757 6,400 reis. Rio mint. MS-63 (NGC). Types as above. Frosty medium gold, subtle toning, good lustre and eye appeal. A full weight and nicely preserved example. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." The type was struck 1751-77 in Brazil and Portugal.
Recorded mintage: 495,310.
Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, 31.5 mm diameter; this specimen: 14.29 grams, 31.50 mm diameter.
