This specimen was lot 25505 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $2,702.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold Peca (6400 Reis) 1756, MS64 NGC, an appealing specimen with soft original toning and full mint bloom. Very scarce when graded this high." This type was struck 1750-76 but is seldom seen compared to similar coins that were struck in Brazil.

Recorded mintage: 200,201.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, 31.5 mm diameter.
