This specimen was lot 31512 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold Escudo 1747 MS63 NGC, Lisbon mint. The highest certified example across NGC and PCGS and it is clear why. Here a crisp central striking couples with high metal quality and color, topped off with a breath of frosty luster cu[l]m[in]ating in a piece of exquisite eye-appeal. A top-shelf coin deserving of careful numismatic attention." This type is noted for 1723-49 and has a rather low catalog value for a seldom seen coin. This date is listed as common.
