This specimen was lot 33861 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold Escudo 1738 MS61 NGC, Also valued at 1600 Reis. With abundant golden luster and a crisp strike. A most impressive example that could easily have been graded a point higher." This type is noted for 1723-49 and has a rather low catalog value for a seldom seen coin. This date is listed as common.
