Portugal 1732 12800 reis
This specimen was lot 1527 in Áureo y Calicó sale 346 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$5,015 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1732. Portugal. Juan V. Lisboa. 1 dobra (12800 reis). AU. Atractiva. Rara y más así. EBC-. (kingdom of Portugal, John V, one dobra (12,800 réis) of 1732, Lisbon mint. Attractive, rare thus, about extremely fine.)"
This type is catalogued in the SCWC as an eight escudos even tho it is about 6% heavier than a Spanish eight escudos. It was struck in Lisbon 1724-32 and all dates are rare. The type was also struck in Brazil, which issues are much more available tho still expensive.
