This specimen was lot 25502 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 4000 Reis 1719, AU58 NGC, incredibly sharp details with soft patina and muted mint luster, a choice example and quite scarce in this quality." This scarce type was struck in Lisbon 1707-22 and in Porto 1712-14 but ceased thereafter. The moidore instead became a familiar coin of Brazil.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 10.76 g, 0.917 fine gold, .317 troy oz AGW.
