This specimen was lot 22891 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 400 Reis, 1705. Pedro II (1683-1706). PCGS VF-35 Secure Holder. An attractive piece with choice rims and medium toning. Fully struck up and solid for the grade." This type was issued 1696-97, 1704-06; it is much scarcer than later types (KM 255, 267, 273, 282, 288, 291). As it was the largest silver denomination issued by Portugal in the eighteenth century, it is listed in Davenport tho it is much too small to be called a thaler or crown.
