For some reason, Portugal struck the smaller silver denominations without dates. This sixty réis (3 vinténs) was accompanied by silver fifty réis (meio tostão), eighty réis (tostão) and 120 réis (6 vinténs). The practice did not end until the decimal reform of 1837. The larger silver coins were dated.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.8 g, 0.917 fine silver, 18 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 237.2, Gomes-13.01 (IOSEPHUS) and KM 237.1, Gomes-14.01 (JOSEPHUS obverse, shown here). Gomes-15.01 has a five arch crown.
