Pomerania 1691-ILA 1/12 thaler KM-323
This specimen was lot 11084 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €69 (about US$80). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Pomerania. 1/12 Taler, 1691-ILA. Stettin Mint. Karl XI. NGC Fine-12. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." On the lapse of the native dynasty in 1637, the duchy of Pomerania was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815. This type was struck by the Swedish king 1689-93. A scarce variety (KM 337) exists with the central griffin on the obverse facing left.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.5 g, silver, 25 mm diameter, this specimen 3.38 g.
