Pomerania-Stettin 1629 thaler Dav-7269
This specimen was lot 4348 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,476 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POMMERN, HERZOGTUM NACH DER LANDESVEREINIGUNG VON 1625 Bogislaw XIV., (1620-) 1625-1637. Reichstaler 1629, Stettin. Mit P : RV * am Ende der Vorderseitenumschrift und gekreuzten Zainhaken am Ende der Rückseitenumschrift. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (duchy of Pomerania, Bogislav XIV, 1625-37, thaler of 1629, Stettin mint, with "P : RV *" at the end of the obverse legend and crossed punch marks at the end of the reverse legend. Extremely rare, handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This very rare issue doesn't seem to be mentioned in the SCWC. Bogislav was the last native duke of the region, and his death in 1637 without heirs triggered a war between Brandenburg and Sweden over his legacy. The two powers finally partitioned Pomerania by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 28,34 g.
