This specimen was lot 71490 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 10 Zlotych, 1938. Warsaw Mint. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. A fully lustrous gem quality coin with medium gray toning throughout." This type was struck 1934-39 to commemorate the founder of independent Poland, Josef Pilsudski. The design, with its thuggish portrait of the statesman, inspired the Hindenburg commemorative issued in Nazi Germany in the 1930's.
Recorded mintage: 234,000, a better date of a somewhat scarce type.
