Steve Album sale 39, lot 1717
SA39-1717r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1717 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND: Republic, AR 10 złotych, 1939, blast white with pristine surfaces, NGC graded MS65." This type was struck 1934-39 to commemorate the founder of independent Poland, Josef Pilsudski. The design, with its thuggish portrait of the statesman, inspired the Hindenburg commemorative issued in Nazi Germany in the 1930's. Poland lost her independence in 1939, not to regain it until the collapse of Communism in 1989.

Recorded Mintage: unknown but the most common date of 1934-39.

Specification: 22 g, 0750 fine silver, 34 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM Y-29, Dav-257.
