This specimen was lot 32146 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Poland: Nicholas I 3 Grosze 1841 MS64 Red PCGS, Warsaw mint. Lightly toned, with a strong underlying luster across fields that are red throughout. The piece is superbly struck, each detail fully expressed as intended, and possesses an impressive appearance from all angles due to the thickness of the flan. The only example of the date graded by PCGS, which attests to its scarcity in any grade, and even more so to that of any existing Mint State pieces in near-gem condition." This type was struck 1839-41 and is priced very low in the SCWC; this example realized nearly ten times the catalog value. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850.

Recorded mintage: 242,391.

Specification: 8.6 g, copper, 25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM C110.2, Bitkin-1209.
