This specimen was lot 6861 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $376. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Piedmont Republic. Mezzo (1/2) Scudo, Year 7 (1799). NGC EF-40. A nice example of this always popular Napoleonic issue, featuring a centurion striding left with fasces and seed-bag." The Piedmont Republic was a shortlived puppet state set up by Napoleon in 1798 which collapsed on the arrival of Austrian and Russian troops in 1799.
