Piedmont Republic L'AN 10 20 lire
This specimen was lot 562 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1840. The catalog[1] description noted, "1801 (L'an 10) 20 francs. AU-58 (NGC). Helmeted and laureated female bust to left, legends around/value and date in wreath, legends around. Deep yellow gold with reflectivity on both sides, tiny obverse edge bruise at 1:00 at 2:00 on obverse. Struck for Napoleon's puppet state in Northern Italy." This rare piece is listed in the SCWC under the "Italian States--Piedmont Republic," a government as obscure as it was short-lived. As this puppet state was based in Turin, We have filed it under Sardinia.
