Philippines 1966 25 centavos
The first specimen was lot 33607 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Specimen 25 Centavos 1966 SP67 PCGS. A desirable specimen striking with lustrous, clean surfaces." Struck at the United States mint in 1958-66 for the Philippines. This type was accompanied by one, ten, five and fifty centavos which used the old commonwealth designs but were struck in base metal. Worn specimens fill dealer junk boxes but nice uncirculated examples are hard to find, being too cheap for dealers to stock. This type superseded the old silver 20 centavos of 1937-45.
Recorded mintage: 40,000,000 plus 50,000,000 of KM 187.1.
Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel-zinc, 23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM 189.2.
