Struck at the United States mint in 1958-66 for the Philippines. This type was accompanied by one, five, ten and fifty centavos which used the old commonwealth designs but were struck in base metal. Worn specimens fill dealer junk boxes but nice uncirculated examples are hard to find, being too cheap for dealers to stock. This type superseded the old silver twenty centavos of 1937-45.
Recorded mintage: 10,000,000.
Specification: 5 g, copper-zinc-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM 189.1.
