This coin was struck at the San Francisco mint in 1947. This and the accompanying peso (KM 185) are the first coin issues of the independent Republic of the Philippines and one of the few silver issues to circulate. It is the same size and weight as the fifty centavos issues during the Commonwealth (KM 171, 1907-21, and KM 183, 1944-45). The dark toning on this specimen does not show the design well, especially since this type tends to have soft relief.
Recorded mintage: 200,000.
Specification: 10 g, 0.750 fine silver, .2411 troy oz ASW, 27.5 mm diameter, designed by Laura Gardin Fraser.
