Sincona sale 97, lot 1351

This specimen was lot 1351 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$762 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Pfalz-Kurlinie, Karl Theodor, 1742-1799. 1/2 Konventionstaler 1773, Mannheim. Stempelschneider Anton Schäfer. Gutes vorzüglich. Herrliche Patina. (Germany, electorate of Pfalz, Charles Theodore, 1742-99, half thaler of 1773, Mannheim mint. About Uncirculated, Most attractively toned.)"

This type was struck 1773-76 and is fairly expensive. The Palatinate and Bavaria were merged when the last elector of Bavaria died in 1777. Most of the Palatinate was occupied and then annexed by France during the Revolution.
