Sincona sale 43, lot 3011. this specimen is probably Dav-7149

This specimen was lot 3011 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (aboout US$5,072 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TSCHECHIEN, Böhmen, Friedrich V. von der Pfalz (Winterkönig), 1619-1622 Taler 1621. Heidelberg. Sehr selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (kingdom of Bohemia, Frederick V of the Palatinate, the "Winter King", 1619-22, thaler of 1621, Heidelberg mint. Very rare, Very fine-extremely fine, Minor planchet defect.)"

This rare thaler was issued by the Protestant Count Palatine, Frederick V, during his attempt to seize the crown of Bohemia from the Hapsburgs, who had held it since 1526. His attempt failed, and he was forced to surrender his right to elect the Holy Roman Emperor to the duke of Bavaria, but in the process he set off the Thirty Years War.
