Fugger-Babenhausen 1621 thaler Dav-6673
This specimen was lot 32871 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $680.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "Fugger-Babenhausen Taler 1621 AU Details (Mount Removed) NGC. Although in a details holder, there is nothing that diminishes the eye appeal of this piece, which possesses crisp details and toning that accentuates the devices wonderfully." This rare type was struck 1621 and 1623. The Fuggers were originally a banking family, ennobled for their services to the Hapsburgs. At the time of the German mediatization by Napoleon in 1806, the estate was divided into Prince of Fugger-Babenhausen, the Count of Fugger-Glött, Count of Fugger-Kirchberg-Weissenhorn, Count of Fugger-Kirchheim and Count of Fugger-Nordendorf. The territory was partitioned between Wurttemberg and Bavaria.
