This specimen was lot 3601 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description[1] noted, "From 1950 100 soles. MS-63 (NGC). Liberty seated to right, legends around/arms, legends and date around. Highly lustrous yellow gold with prooflike surfaces." The type was struck in Lima 1950-70 in limited numbers as a bullion coin. This date is not common; some dates are rare (<200 pieces). Gold five, ten, twenty and fifty soles were struck during the same period.
Recorded mintage: 1,176.
Specification: 46.80 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.354 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 46.89 grams, 36.80 mm diameter.
