The type was struck in Lima 1950-70 in limited numbers as a bullion coin. This date is not common; some dates are rare (<200 pieces). Gold five, ten, twenty and fifty soles were struck during the same period. This specimen was lot 24628 in Heritage sale 3014 (Chicago, April, 2011), where it sold for $2,472.50. The catalog description noted: "Republic gold 100 Soles 1951, MS62 NGC, highly lustrous, prooflike luster, a beauty! Second year of type with a mintage of 8,241 pieces, few of which could be this flashy."

Recorded Mintage: 8,241.

Specifications: 46.807 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.3544 oz AGW.
