Peru 1951 20 centavos

The twenty centavos denomination was originally occupied by the silver quinto, struck 1888-1917. It was superseded by a copper-nickel coin in 1918, which was replaced by a brass type in 1942 when World War Two drove up the price of nickel. This sub-type, issued 1945-51, features a numeric date. The 1951 comes with a thick (4.2 g, struck 1949-51) and thin planchet (3.8 g, struck 1951-65). It is accompanied by brass five and ten centavos.

Recorded mintage: 2,941,000.

Specification: 4.2 g or 3.8 g, brass, 23 mm diameter, reeded edge.
