Eliasberg lot 3599

This specimen was lot 3599 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description^[1] noted, "1930 50 soles. MS-63 (NGC). Head of Inca chieftain to left, legends around, date below/Incan pictogram, legends around. Highly lustrous pale orange gold with some prooflike reflectivity. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type, struck to the standard of a United States $20 gold piece, was struck 1930-31 and 1967-69. A later type struck 1950-70 weighed only 23.40 grams.
