This specimen was lot 30289 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 50 Soles 1950 MS63 Prooflike NGC, Lima mint. Choice Mint State with fully reflective fields and mild scattered surface contact marks, as expected for the grade. The scarcer first date of the type, rarely seen so finely preserved and very desirable as such." This denomination, struck 1950-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold five, ten, twenty and hundred soles.

Recorded mintage: 1,927.

Specification: 23.405 g, 0.900 fine gold, .677 troy oz AGW.
