The first specimen was lot 6082 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peru. Sol, 1872-YB. Republic. Seated liberty. Arabic 1. Lustrous. NGC graded MS-63. The Victor Jaramillo Collection." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1864-76 at the Lima mint. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1879-97 and 1914-16. The mintage of this date is not recorded but later issues were in the millions. This specimen shows assayer "YJ", not assayer "YB" as stated in the catalog description.
