This specimen was lot 72366 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Sol, 1873-LD. Lima Mint. NGC AU-55. Variety with Roman 1 in date. A wholesome nearly Mint State specimen, this wonderful example deliver is attractive and worthy of a premium bid from specialist in the series." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1873 at the Lima mint. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1874-97 and 1914-16. Assayers YJ are recorded for 1870-80.
Recorded mintage: 445,000, a slightly better date.
