Sedwick Treasure Auction 36, lot 2018
Sed36-2018r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2018 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $390. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Pasco, 4 reales, 1843 M, mintmark PAZCO in monogram, NGC XF details / obv spot removed, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-O'Brien. Scarce one-year type, a bit crudely struck as is typical for this period with small planchet flaws, the noted obverse spot removal being more like a scuff at the center rather than anything intentional, toned over with nice, even golden hues amid some retained luster. Pedigreed to the John O'Brien Collection (stated on label), with his tag." The Pasco mint is best known for some rare eight reales of 1836 (KM 142.6), some very rare two reales of this date and an intermittent issue of four reales 1843-57 (KM 151.4, 151.5, 151.6, 151.7, 151.9 and 151.10).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-151.4.
