This specimen was lot 1334 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, 4 reales, 1843 MB, NGC AU 58, finest known in NGC census, ex-O'Brien. Very choice and well-detailed strike with luminous luster overlain by very subtle rainbow toning, a lovely example to be sure, far nicer-looking than its hairline-induced assigned grade would indicate, the finest on record in any case. Pedigreed to the John O'Brien Collection (stated on label), with his tag." This type was struck in Lima 1842-51 and 1854-56 and this is a fairly common date. An 1843/2 overdate is recorded. Assayer MB operated 1838-58.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-151.3.
