This specimen was lot 1398 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, 8 reales, 1835 MM, POR AL UNION error, rare, NGC VF details / obv tooled. Broad flan with full rims despite edge-flaw, slightly weak centers, nicely toned, rare and highly sought error with AL instead of LA in legend." This type was struck at Lima 1828-40 and at Cuzco 1830-35 and is common; the complete span of Peru standing liberty eight reales runs 1825-55. Assayer MM is recorded for the Lima mint 1831-35 and this date is common altho the error in the legend is rare.
