CNG Lissner collection, lot 2075

This specimen was lot 2075 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $7,865. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Republic. 1821-present. AV 8 Escudos. Cuzco mint. Dated 1834 Bo Ar. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 61. Very prooflike with lustrous surface. Ex A. Kosoff (26 October 1971), lot 177." This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This is one of the more available dates but we have no explanation for the bizarre assayers' initials which appear 1833-34 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.5 g, 0.875 fine gold, .379 troy oz AGW, this specimen Ø37 mm, 27.02 g, 6h axis.

Catalog reference: Fr-63; KM 148.2; C 145.3.
