This provisional one-eighth peso was minted in Lima, Peru by the republicans during 1823. The mint was recaptured by the royalists and held by them until their final collapse in 1824. The SCWC notes that this issue was restruck in 1921 using original dies; this specimen may be one such restrike. The date is also known with assayer "V".
