Peru 1822 1/4 real
The first specimen was lot 2028 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $332.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Republic. 1821-present. CU 1/4 Real. Provisional coinage. Lima mint. Dated 1822. In NGC encapsulation graded AU 58. Deeply toned chocolate brown. Only three of these have been graded and all of them at AU 58. Purchased from Sam Lopresto, March 1972." This provisional cuartilla was minted in Lima, Peru, by the republicans during 1822. The mint was recaptured by the royalists and held by them until their final collapse in 1824. The issue of silver cuartillas would not begin until 1826.
