This specimen was lot 1297 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 1 escudo, Ferdinand VII transitional ("imaginary" bust), 1811 JP, very rare, NGC AU details / cleaned, ex-Almenara. Superb luster, with weak bust and crown, minor lamination flaws, and slightly crude rims as usual for this type, the obverse somewhat hairlined. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This coin was minted in Lima of a type struck 1809-11 using the "imaginary bust." Hubs from Spain were unavailable, Spain being under French occupation and Ferdinand languishing in a French prison. Assayer JP is recorded for 1803-23.
