This specimen was lot 24604 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 4 Escudos, 1787-MI. Charles III (1759-88). PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, EF Details Secure Holder. RARE. Armored bust right; Reverse: Crowned shield in Collar of the Golden Fleece. Mounting trace at 12:00, jewelry polish and wear. Ex: Querendon Collection, sold by Stack's 01/2011 sale, lot# 1666." This scarce type is divided into two varieties: KM 81, struck 1772-84, 0.901 fine gold; and KM 81a, struck 1785-89, with the fineness reduced to .875.
