This specimen was lot 31692 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $558.13. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold Escudo 1773-JM, VF25 NGC. Evenly worn details with attractive old-time toning. The SCWC shows this assayer as very scarce." While eight escudos from Peru are reasonably available albeit expensive, the smaller gold denominations are all very scarce. The SCWC prices this type very low, but specialists know better. This date comes with assayer JM and MJ.
