SB1122-72074r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72074 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 4 Reales, 1760-LM. Lima Mint; Assayers Joseph Rodriguez de Carrasa & Manuel de Iglesia Abarca (J M). Ferdinand VI. PCGS EF-40. A wholesome example with sharp devices and problem-free surfaces. The elegant smoky toning enhances the coin's finer details. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was struck 1752-1760 for king Ferdinand VI. As a class, pillar coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, though it is more available than the remaining mints.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10539, KM-54; Cal-377.
