Peru 1752-L J escudo
This specimen was lot 1260 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 1 escudo, Ferdinand VI, 1752 J, first bust, very rare, NGC AU details / saltwater damage, ex-Almenara. Sharply detailed strike in technically UNC grade (at least in our opinion) but with tiny marks on non-lustrous and slightly grainy surfaces, still quite a strong example from this rare three-year type that Friedberg just calls "rare" without values. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This type is very rare. A slightly revised bust (Fr-23) was used 1754-59. The 1752 escudo from Mexico City used a different bust.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine gold.
