Peru 1735-L N 8 reales
This specimen was lot 698 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales, 1735 N, ex-Ugaz, ex-Ortiz. Well-centered pillars and cross within flat, sloping peripheries, the date full and bold, VF with spotty toning, desirable pedigree. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection and the Emilio Ortiz Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1991, lot 131)." Cob eight reales were struck at the Lima mint 1701-46 for Philip V of Spain and became the "pieces of eight" of pirate lore. Assayer Negron y Colmenares ("N") stamped his coins 1728-40. The cobs were debased from 0.931 to 0.917 fine in 1728.
