Peru 1724-L M real
This specimen was lot 1877 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $114. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 1 real, 1724 M, rare, ex-Ugaz. Apparently a rare date (first we have offered in over 14 years) with clear 724 showing between off-center pillars, partial cross with flat peripheries, light surface scuffs. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." This type was struck 1701-28 for the Bourbon king Philip V, with an interruption in 1725 for the short reign of his son Luis I. Assayer Melgarejo ("M") stamped his coins 1709-27. In 1728, the cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine silver.
