Sedwick 38-0049r.jpg

This specimen was lot 49 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $22,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold cob 1 escudo, 1710 H, NGC MS 63 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), ex-McGregor. Broad flan with choice full castle flanked by •L• and •H•, bold full date below, also full cross but with some peripheral weakness and die-rust, decent luster and rich color, second finest of just three in the NGC census (the others being AU 58 and MS 65). From the 1715 Fleet, with Sedwick photo-certificate, pedigreed to the McGregor Collection (stated on label)." Gold coins from colonial Peru are much scarcer than those from Colombian mints. Recorded mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: S-L25a; Cal-1664; KM-35; Fr-10, Cayón-9515 (assayer M).
