Peru 1692-L V 2 reales
This specimen was lot 666 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 2 reales, 1692 V. Broad flan with good full pillars and cross, two dates, flat peripheries, VF+ with dark, uneven toning (good contrast). Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection of Lima Silver Cob 2 Reales." The mint at Lima operated briefly in the 1560's before the Potosi mint was opened and operated again 1659-60 without the permission of royal officials. Not until 1684 was the mint opened on a permanent basis and two reales of this type were struck until 1700. Assayer de Villegas stamped his coins 1684 and 1689-93. Specimens with legible dates are scarce.
