This specimen was lot 1862 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 1 real, 1691 R, ex-Ugaz. Fine with bold date between pillars and second date visible in legend, nearly complete off-center cross with partial king's name, dark gray-toned fields. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." The regime in Madrid finally permitted the viceroy in Lima to reopen the mint in 1684. This type was struck 1684-1701 for the degenerate Charles II. Assayer R is listed for 1685-91.
