This specimen was lot 654 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 8 reales, 1689 V, quatrefoil at top, ex-Ugaz, ex-Association (1707), ex-Lane. Excellent full cross-lions-castles with very bold mintmark and date, well-centered full pillars-and-waves with a few weak spots but bold second date and mintmark, two assayers, steel-toned XF with traces of orange and blue, minimal spots of porosity (surely one of the finest examples from the Association shipwreck), scarcest date of the 1680s for this mint. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection and to the original The Association Coin auction by W.H. Lane & Son (September 1974), lot 1067." This type was the first eight reales issued by the Lima mint after it reopened in 1684. It was struck until 1701 for Charles II. Assayer "V" appeared in 1684 and then 1689-93. This date also comes with assayer R.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
