Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3418

This specimen was lot 3418 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU: Carlos II, 1665-1700, AR 2 reales cob, 1684-L, assayer V, with two clear dates, VF." This cob two reales was struck for Charles II 1684-1701. The vast majority lack legible dates. Assayer V is reported for 1684, 1689, 1692-93. The Lima mint was shuttered multiple times by orders from Spain, not to open permanently until 1684.
